SOME HEAVY EVENTS
All men's and women's heavy events, including the caber, were held in the south-west field. The tug-of-war competitions were held in the Festival Main Field, where the Tattoo and Opening Ceremony took place. There were no Track and Field competitions ... nor was there a Hill Race, but the Highland Games of Fergus sanctioned a 10K charity Run at Victoria Park on Sunday morning.
Most events at Highland Games have a basis in historical competitions
between the clans. I was fortunate to be able to attend two in Scotland this year (Braemar and Blairgowrie). I liked the way that all events were presented on the same large field. In Canada, the events seem to be spread apart so that you cannot see everything that is going on.
SWORD DANCES
The Highland Dance competitions took place on the west of the site on Saturday and Sunday. There were three classes: Beginners, Novice and Intermediate.
PIPE BANDS
Members of the Toronto Police Pipe Band took first place in the Grade 3 competition. The Toronto Police Pipe Band is one of two Ontario police bands, who wear the Red Ross tartan.
