The Canadian Massed Pipes and Drums Band were honoured to be invited to perform a pre-show parade on the esplanade of Edinburgh Castle prior to the Tattoo. This year marks the 60th Season of the Tattoo spectacular. The Royal Air Force performed a nightly flypast.
In celebration of the 250th Anniversary of Robert Burns, the massed bands appropriately blended the familiar Burns medleys into the beginning of the programme. The Royal Scots Dragoons and the Royal Regiment of Scotland were prominent groups. Projection techniques were used against the Castle walls throughout the evening. Performances featured the Calgary Burns Club Choir from Canada Tongan Royal Corps, the RAF emergency response team in a simulated hostile zone, (the Top Secret Drum Corps from Basel in Switzerland with the Swiss Army's Central Band), and the 90-strong She Huo cultural troupe from Xi'an in China.
Featured performers during the finale were the Band of the Royal Air Force Regiment, the Band of the Royal Air Force College, and the Royal Air Force Salon Orchestra. Music included Tour of Duty, Going Home and Amazing Grace.
